Editor’s Note: Three Decades of Facts … and Three Years of FACTS

For more than three decades, the International Food Information Council and IFIC Foundation have been providing consumers with the best information on nutrition, food safety, and health, all based in sound science. But exactly which science is “sound” and which is just static?

July marks the third anniversary of our FACTS Network (Food Advocates Communicating Through Science). To date, nearly 80,000 people have signed up as “FACTS Followers,” helping us delve a little deeper into the science of food itself in consumer-friendly terms.

Each day brings a barrage of headlines about food issues and scientific studies. The goal of FACTS is to help cut through the clutter, debunk the junk, and halt the hysteria. No wonder, then, that consumers are more confused than ever about what to eat and what to avoid—and, as our annual Food and Health Survey tells us, it could be harming our health.

By becoming a FACTS Follower (for free, via email on our website, our Facebook page, and our Twitter feed), you’ll be part of a community that is combating sensationalism and busting the biggest myths about food.

In taking our consumer education and advocacy to the next level, and helping turn back the tide of pseudoscientific nonsense, you could say that the FACTS Network has been adding a little more “insight” to FoodInsight.org.
