A new project, the Genetic Expert News Service (GENeS) is dedicated to “ensuring that the expertise and opinions of the scientific community on genetics and biotechnology issues are readily available to the media and public.”
With initial funds from the Genetic Literacy Project and the Institute for Food and Agricultural Literacy at the University of California at Davis, GENeS focuses on prominent (and often controversial) stories in the media with a strong science angle and then works to connect relevant experts with the news media. (The IFIC Foundation also has part of its mission to link journalists with any of hundreds of credible, independent experts in all manner of food and nutrition issues.)
Since its launch in April, GENeS or comments circulated by GENeS have appeared in several prominent national and international news outlets.
